The job of all cashiers are similar. We all go through the same things no matter where we are, we have those good days and our...Well...not so good days. we have those really friendly, funny, great customers and then we have those grumpy, angry, I just wanna kick you out the door customers. then there are those customers that make you shake your head, roll your eyes, and think to your self "just take the items and leave" if you have ever been a cashier and your reading this you probably know what I mean.
Our job may sound easy but don't let it fool ya it can be a real pain some times. For example: when a customer is upset and takes it out on you, when all your coworkers are in the back standing around, laughing and having a good time and your the only one working, when your coworkers get lazy, when your humanly wrong and the customers rub it in, when there is a long line of customers and they are all impatient and it seems like you are getting no where, when you feel like falling over or punching something and all you can do is smile, when they curse in your face and you have to take a deeeeep breath and say "im sorry sir, have a nice day" But it also has its good points, like when you see a satisfied smile on a persons face, a nice conversation with a elderly person, watching the tenderness of a little family, and just simply getting a compliment.
being a cashier takes patients, kindness, hard work, computer, math, and people skills, responsibility, loyalty, and self control.
Personally I don't like working as a cashier more than 2 years in one place. just because things get boring and tiring. I don't exactly enjoy a job where I pray and hope to do something new today at work and my boss tells me " I need you on the registers today". hahaha!
So next time you encounter a cashier please be kind because behind that smile is a person who has bigger dreams
:) thank you!
WARNING: being a cashier is not for everyone it may cause gray hairs, sore feet, stress, and aggression.
